Social security indexation from 20 March 2025 

Some government payment rates and limits have risen as a result of indexation. 

The maximum rate of pension for those on the Age Pension, Disability Support Pension and Carer Payment increased. Broadly, the maximum rate of these pensions (including energy supplement and minimum pension supplement) has increased to $29,874 pa for a single and $45,037 pa for a couple combined.

The upper cut off limit for both the income and asset test have also increased. Clients who previously may have just missed out on qualifying for a part pension might now be eligible. Assets and income threshold changes are detailed below.

No change to deeming rates

There were no changes to deeming rates, as current rates remain frozen until 30 June 2025. While there have been reports in the media that the freezing of deeming rates has been extended for another year, this has yet to be officially announced.

Jobseeker Payment

JobSeeker Payment, Special benefit (adult), ABSTUDY (aged 22 and over) and Parenting Payment recipients also saw increases to their payments.  

Parenting Payment Single recipients saw an additional $4 a fortnight, bringing their total fortnightly payment to $1030.30, including Pension Supplement, Pharmaceutical Allowance and Energy Supplement. 

For a single recipient of JobSeeker Payment aged 22 and over without children, indexation delivered a $3.10 increase, bringing their total fortnightly payment to $789.90 (including Energy Supplement). 

Each member of a couple on JobSeeker Payment, ABSTUDY (aged 22 and over) or Parenting Payment Partnered saw an additional $2.80 per fortnight, with the fortnightly rate increasing to $723, including Energy Supplement. 

 

Commonwealth Seniors Health Card (CSHC) 

There was no change to the CSHC income limits. No assets test applies.
